Judy Niemack's Teaching

Judy has been teaching vocal technique and improvisation to singers since 1980. She is a dedicated and involved teacher, who has led the Jazz/Pop vocal department at Berlin’s Music Conservatory “Hanns Eisler Hochshule für Musik” since 1995, and now leads the vocal jazz departments in two Conservatories in Europe: the Jazz Institut Berlin, in Germany and Musikene in San Sebastian, Spain. She also gives frequent workshops and master classes in Vocal Improvisation, Vocal Groups and Interpretation.

Judy began teaching privately soon after moving to New York City in 1977, and soon began filling in for Sheila Jordan at City College of New York. In 1985 she was invited to join the faculty of Long Island University in Brooklyn under the leadership of saxophonist Pete Yellin. She subsequently taught for several years at the New School for Jazz.

  She has been a faculty member for 19 years of Janice Borla’s Summer Vocal Jazz Camp (Naperville, Illinois), and has taught at Stanford University Jazz Workshop with Madeline Eastman, at Cathy Segal-Garcia’s Vocal Jazz Workshops, at William Patterson University (N.J.), and Purchase University (New York).
